Putting together a 93 g6 engine with a new head its cranking, has spark but not firing..maybe an ignition timing issue? as I wasnt sure about the markings on the distributor.
When the punch hole is lined up my rotor points to #4 on the dizzy cap. Is this the correct timing to set the distributor at tdc?
Thanks for any help
Those should line up to #1. Of course engine rotation needs to be set for TDC #1 first.
And can't a B2600i distributor rotor be installed in three different orientations (for some strange reason) ????
I thought it would of needed to be at #1 lead too at tdc cyl 1 compression stroke, tried matching it to point 1 on the rotor cap the best I could and ignoring the markings but still not firing.
When all the marking are lined up on the housing and drive gear the rotor only points to #4 and doesnt match any
markings with the other orientations 🤔 so confused 🤣
I know this Post is old enough to be in grade school now, but I am literally having the same problem.
I matched my markings (looked the same as yours) on my dizzy and reinstalled during my engine rebuild. Im now months later and ready to start but same issue. Fuel/spark but no start.
My dizzy also points to #4.
I was wondering what, if anything, you figured out?
Yo Josh! You're 180° out more than likely. Make absolutely sure that you are on the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder before you install the distributor........AND....then make sure that the rotor is installed so that it points to the 9:00 o'clock position (pointing to the #1 cylinder spark plug lead tower on the dist. cap) and you will be golden!
I responded to your other thread on the other site also!
First thing. Is the valve timing correct? If so then as previously mentioned make sure your on TDC compression No1. Align the marks in the pic and slide the dissy into place. You can then have a look to make sure the rotor button is pionting towards No1 in the dissy cap. I usually make a small scratch line where the dissy lines with the head to make the timing a bit more accurate. If all fails you can put a timing light on and see just where No1 is firing.
