Mazda BT 50 & Pickup TrucksWhile Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50
The 2WD B2600i won't get the fuel mileage that the B2200 will, unless it is an auto trans truck with it's 3.727 rear gear ratio.......and only when you drive it on the highway where you can leave it in OD for a long time......around town, the manual trans B2600i will do a little better on MPG only compared to the auto trans B2600i.
The 2.6L engine gives you more HP than the 2.2L or the 2.0L.......but rebuilding it is more expensive, due to the oil pump price, as it comes with a whole new aluminum timing chain cover as well......but they are more.....peppy!
The B2600i and B2200 FI (typically California & Canada only) engines do have inherent problems with their ECM's........on the original ECM's there are two capacitors that will leak and start etching/corroding the traces on the board and it affects the fuel injector circuits.
bjzman99 - I'm in Arizona, so B-trucks here are entirely rust free.
That's the good news. The bad news here is that 1986-1993 B-trucks are horribly rare here, very few were sold here because there were few Mazda dealerships, and they were small. Plus big redneck area so "Detroit" trucks ruled. It's been about 1.5 years since I've seen another B-truck on the road except for mine, and maybe 1 or 2 show up for sale in the entire state in a year (Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace). 15 years ago one could find B-trucks in parts yards, now very rare there too. I'd say here in Arizona about 20 of the B2200 to every one of B2600i.
So I gave up on finding a B2600i Cab Plus 5-speed for myself, instead I have settled on my 1988 B2200 Cab Plus and "my B2600i" which in reality is a 2004 Nissan Frontier King Cab with 143hp 4-cylinder (timing chain) engine and 5-speed. And the Frontier fits in my garage like my B2200 does.
Incidentally - I'm not a huge fan of blue, but when one buys "used", it's best to go after the best vehicle available.
I am finding the same in Tennessee as well. searched a 250 radius with only 1 used for sale.
I just have to be patient.
Check Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace every day, and prepare to move fast if decent truck. Guy here on Marketplace is asking $4K for an '89; this site's software won't allow to post a link.

Have your cash, check out vehicle well. Crawl under too; I found a leak on a 2014 Yukon we bought last year by inspecting, had that fixed before I'd buy.
