b2000 350/350 conversion questions
Some of you guys have done your v8 conversions, I'd like to hear more details; motor mounts, tranny cross member and the like. Can I get away with a stock rear end if it's a stock 350? Thanks, Matt

RE: b2000 350/350 conversion questions
you can but it will probably do 50 mph tops cause the stock rearend has some where around 5 to 1 gear ratio. i have many secrets that i guess i can tell about, starting at the front and going back what i might do is see if i cant build mount that will bolt up to stock and sell them that way. i built my own and cut off the old ones. as for a fan i used an electric fan. the rest of the parts icould think of are listed bellow. i will also try to get pictures since my engine is out right now cause im putting in a tranny. also i had to hammer the fire wall in a little bit.
1974 chevy nova radiator and hoses
engine 1979 chevy van regular 4 bolt 350
standard 73 and newer pick up motor mounts and fabed my own pirches for them i will get measurments for that
tranny turbo 350 long tail shaft
drive shaft just happened to have it i think it is out of a nova i will get a dimension and check for you
engine crossmember custom fabed my own
tranny crossmember custom fabed the stock
shifter just built my own
tranny mount 79 chevy van
rear end right now 75 olds 98 soon to be a narrowed 9" ford drilled to 6 lug
if you need part #'s i can get them or if youy need anything just ask.

RE: b2000 350/350 conversion questions
hey kid we are talking about puting V8s in there a V8 can be pushed to around 5 to 6 thousand rpm without hurting any thing were a 4 cylinder can handel up to 7 8 and sometimes 9 thousand rpms so that is why they have lower gears. a vehical with a stock v8 will have 2, 3, or 4 to 1 ratio.

Hi Nathan
Just read your message, cheers for that. What i was trying to say was, i have a diesel motor in there. Im guessing that they rev to about 4 thousand Rpm. So i was just trying to make sure what rear end ratio was, so i could work out the top speed/cruising speed.
I only ask this as, before i jump in, i can work out my economy.
As at $8 per gallon, it aint cheap.
Cheers Roland

5 to one? you've smoked too much dope. b2600i is around 4.13. i think 2000's and 2200s are 3.90. an easy way to check it jack up the rear end and mark the tire and the driveshaft and spin them, count how many times the tire rotates for 1 revolution of the driveshaft. if your gears are still set up from the factory, and they bearings are good, it will hold up fine. its an open differentail and it transfers the torque,
