I could only take a few wild guesses, but I noticed you have done some recent upgrades to the fuel system. Did the trouble start then? It's clearly a low speed/idle problem. To me that could mean too much air or too much fuel. Either way its liable to be a balance problem. Is the new fuel pump giving the carb too much pressure at low speeds, or are the air correctors clogged/mis-sized? Do you have any vacuum leaks, etc? Has the carb been rebuilt or replaced recently?
I would say first you would have to determine whether its a fuel problem or air. You might be taking in more fuel than air at low speeds.
Did you install a fuel pressure regulator after the fuel pump?

This carb is extremely complex. But first, I'd try stuff I've had issues with in the 16 years I've had my 1988 B2200.

(1) Check to make sure that all the vacuum hoses are connected, and not brittle or broken. Yes, there's a ton of them.

(2) Check to make sure the EGR (on the passenger side) is operational, and not stuck open. These fill up with hard carbon, and the valve then cannot open and close. If stuck open (like mine was), then idle sucks or is non-existent. New EGRs are expensive, but in most cases the EGR body can be cleaned out, carbon chipped out, etc. Three 10mm head (socket size) screws hold these on, better get the new EGR gasket in advance, though.

Good advise!!
I had considered the EGR system as a possibilty as well, but from my experience they usually just cause a rough idle. That, and seeing his garage page that stated fuel system upgrades (10 gal racing cell and Holley electric fuel pump) made me more suspicious of that causing a problem.
I put a mechanical Holley FP on an old Chevy small block I had once w/o an adjustable regulator and it delivered too much fuel to the carb. The car ran OK, but sucked up gas like it was going out of style... and that was BEFORE the first embargo.

Perhaps these engines are more susceptible to a non-idle EGR situation than the few I had run into in the past. It's certainly worth checking out and could save you a ton of time and money too!

Yep, on my B2200 it wouldn't idle at all when the EGR valve was stuck open. This happened on a Friday afternoon when I had planned to take it up north Saturday, tried to figure out Friday night what could be wrong, checked wires, plugs, vacuum hoses, etc. Then drove other truck up on Saturday, part-way there it dawned on me that EGR might be stuck open, so upon return, removed it for a look-see. Sure enough, it was stuck open. I did free the EGR plunger, and also made a block-off plate since I have Weber and no emissions testing in my county.
