Default 88 B2200 Q and A

Okay, I use my truck everyday for work. I wanted to at first make it look nice then I have recently decided it was more important to just keep it running nice. I have a lot of questions as I am slightly new to working on vehicles. I love this truck and I want to make sure it lasts. I guess for starters, I'll start with the throttle body.
There are two cables, but it seems there is one missing but my truck still accelerates properly. It just doesn't idle right. Can anyone tell me what this missing cable does and if it is affecting my trucks performance. Thanks

I believe that the second channel is for a cruise control cable. Does your truck have cruise control? If not, it's not surprising that the cruise control cable is missing.

Correct !

When I added aftermarket cruise control to my B2200, its cable slipped right in.

Default Engine shakes

That makes so much sense. Thanks guys. Next question, why does my engine shake irregularly every 3-5 seconds. I put new spark plugs in thinking that it was misfiring but it wasn't the problem. I can feel it shake from the manual shifter and it shakes the whole truck. How do I fix it and what is going on.

Default Engine shakes

Thanks so much guys for the help on that one. Some of this stuff is hard to find with online research. Nice now I kinda want to add a cruise control. I drive hour to hour and a half a day for work so it would be convenient on the freeway. So another thing on the list of problems. My engine shakes abnormally every 3 to 5 seconds. I changed the spark plugs thinking maybe it was miss firing. Now I'm not sure. Could it be irregular flow of fuel??

Thanks for the help! Now I'm thinking about adding cruise control. Is that throttle body aftermarket? Next on the list of problems, my engine shakes irregularly every 3 to 5 seconds... it shakes the whole truck, I can feel it in the shifter aswell. I was thinking engine mounts or uneven fuel flow if that's even a thing. Idk.

That "throttle body" is actually a carburetor.
As these original carburetors age, they lose their ability to idle & perform properly, primarily because they are a "feedback" style of carb. There are multiple sensors that send info to the ECM via wiring, and some of those sensors are vacuum operated. There is a maze of vacuum hoses, and if a person that doesn't know what they are doing, starts messing with them, they can really mess the whole carb performance up. These carbs also have a fuel mixture control solenoid inside of them, that is again, controlled by the ECM and they do wear out.

I have put countless hours of work into troubleshooting these feedback carbs, and some I have actually fixed before, but most of the time I will invest the $300.00 on a new Weber carb, and a couple of hours work to install it, and have a great running truck that no longer needs all of those vacuum hoses, all of the sensor junk, no longer needs the ECM and I usually pick up some fuel mileage along with the carb swap, namely because the original carb is no longer working properly and therefore getting horrible fuel mileage!

If your truck is experiencing idling issues, or rough running and you have the original carb on it, either buy a remanufactured original carb (if you can get one) or replace it with the Weber 32/36 DGEV from Redline Carburetors. This is what most of us have done with our B2000 or B2200 trucks.......unless it is a factory EFI model.

Lots of good info there. Thanks, I'm going to look into it. And thanks for the corrections on the "throttle body" that's actually a carburetor haha.
I have another problem. My trucks check engine light seems to consistently come on 10-15 mins of drive time. The wierd thing is that if I'm on the freeway I throw it in neutral while coasting and turn off then start my truck again, the check engine light turns off. It will come back on in 10-15 mins again. I don't even know where to start with this one.
I appreciate you guys patience and willingness to help me out and share your knowledge btw. It has been helpful so far. Thanks

Not sure this will help, but it's worth a shot.
