I just tried to send a message about the failure of my cruise control while on a trip to south Florida. I was traveling about65 mph when the cruise control just failed to work. I slowed down the about 35 mph and could not feed more fuel with the foot control. I cut the cruise control off and still could not feed more fuel. Some times I could speed up to maybe 50 mph but it would then slow down. When I got to a service station we checked the new fuel filter and the fuel presure both were OK. Then cranked up and things worked fine for about 10 miles and the cruise control failed again. went back to the garage and they advised that mu problem may be the catalatic converter. We staright piped it and still did not work. Decided to try to drive home at 35 mph on back roads. Drove for about 30 miles and the speed came up to 55 - 60 mph and the cruise control began working. Got to Panama City, Florida and replaced the catalatic converter and started home to Atlanta, Ga. At about 150 miles the cruise control failed again and I nursed it home. It is now in the Maxda Only Shop where they are trying to fine the problem. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I will let you know what they find if they can find anything.

That could be dozens of things. The cruise control system is designed to detect engine load and driver input to modify or disengauge its operation. So things that could cause this would be EGR system, brake system, MAF, Throttle position, coolant temp sensors, maybe O2, idle air controller, ignition, crank angle sensor, bad plugs, too much pressure in exhaust, could even be just a loose connector somewhere. If the problem shows itself during testing any competent technician should be able to narrow the system down pretty quick with a scan tool and some basic tools.

Tow rating should be on the sticker in the driver side door jam.
