Im wondering how much of a pain it would be to change the clutch out in a 2wd 2.2 1989 mazda b2200.If someone has some good advice please let me know.....Also the truck i will be getting it in about a few days has not been started in 2 years what should i do to ensure that the engine gets proper oil to lube up the bearings ect?If somebody can help please reply thanks alot.

 

I can think of many cars which would be much worse.

 

you'll have to pull the tranny, no big deal. as for starting, make sure the oil and coolent are full, take the spark plugs out and turn the engine over with the ignition keyso you get oil pressure then put your plugs back in and start it up, don't race it, take it easy the first 50-100 miles, just to loosen the piston rings up, then change the oil and antifreeze. hope this helps.

 

I copped out in 2005 and had my mechanic replace my '88 B2200 clutch, took one day, and I would've needed help (which I didn't have) to stabilize the tranny on my floor jack if I did it myself. It was about $450 total included flywheel resurface, new pressure plate, disc, and throwout bearing. So if you do it yourself, do it right, with all that stuff. He used Luk brand.

 

its no that hard...first time i ever changed a clutch was in an old dodge d50 i had.. i dropped the tranny out and spent 5 hours trying to get the pilot bushing out...until i figured out i could rent the tool from the local parts house..so i rented it and 5 minutes later the damn bushing was out...after that it was cake to reinstall....about starting...pull the plugs.......disconnect the battery (if there is one in it and hooked up) rotate the engine over by putting a socket and ratchet on the crankpully and turning...if it doesnt move you might try marnel mystery oil down the cylinders (thru the spark plug openings) that will creep inbetween the pistons,rings,and cylinderwalls to loosen everything up...after you get the engine rotated a few times and it should go relatively east without plugs in it...then i would recommend putting new plugs ,wires,cap,rotor, and air filter on it and checking the oil, antifreeze etc.. and putting a good battery in it and trying to fire it up..that should do the trick.
