My Haynes manual uses this picture, and states that #8 is the ignition coil- it clearly is not the ignition coil. This is a 1983 626 5spd. The canister has a vacuum hose, a wiring plug, and a cable that goes to the carburetor.

Anyone know what this is? (#8 in the attached picture) I am replacing the carb with a 2 barrel Weber, and trying to get everything figured out before I start.

 

Just a guess; part of the Cruise Control?

 

Yes, i think so. Although it is not covered anywhere in the manual- the cable goes along side the throttle cable and uses the same mounting bracket. Also the directions in the Weber kit instruct to disconnect the cruise control from that same bracket- so that is the most likely. Strange that it is not referred to anywhere in the manual.
