Default Turn Signal/Lighting Control Lever - 626

My 626 (2000) Turn Signal/lighting Control lever is hanging loose and the hi/lo beam won't work (though the turn signals still do). This won't pass inspection. Mechanic will replace with new for ~ $250.00. Can't locate a used lever. Any thoughts as to how big a deal this is; whether a DIY'er ought to be able to easily replace; the quoted price, etc.? Thanks!

I found two switches on eBay motors. Do a search on the site with the string "626 turn signal switch 2000" and see if what comes up is what you need. You'll have to pull the steering wheel which will require you purchase the proper puller. Other than that it's an easy replacement.

I guess I need a new mechanic! I bought a new switch unit at Advanced Auto Parts for ~ $45.00. I managed to install it properly myself : -) The steering wheel does not have to be pulled for this. Three screws on bottom allow plastic sleeve to be removed. Two machine screws hold unit. Wiring is tight in there but patience will pay off!
