Default Rear brake rotor removal

I'm a new member and not real familiar with how do things. So hear goes. I am attempting to replace rear brakes and rotors on my 1990 929S. I believe in order to remove the rotors I have to remove the two bolts that have the recessed cross on their heads. I have tried a Phillips tool but that does not work. Is a special tool required? If so, where is the most ecomnoical place to get it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need what is called an Impact Driver. Below is link to one at Sears for $25, probaqbly not the cheapest but at least that is what they are called and look like. Make sure that the one you get comes with a #3 phillips bit included. The driver works much like a screwdriver except that you smack the end of it with a hammer to deliver a very strong impact like blow to loosen the screw.

You can also use a sharp chisel and hammer to break it loose in the counterclockwise direction and then unscrew with your screwdriver. This method tends to damage the head and somtimes makes reassembly more difficult unless you choose not to reinstall the screws. They are really only there to keep the rotors from falling off as it goes down the assembly line.

Thaks to Babyhuey for the info. The impact driver with the #3 Phillips worked like a charm. The old 929 is back on the road.
