Default My 1980 mazda 626 2.0 with a cursed choke

Anyone got any ideas how to treat a sticky choke. I have installed new engine and new choke wire lever. Everything moves like it should. But while warming up the engine starts to chug and run richer and richer before it floods and conks out. I push in the choke and have checked that the carburetor choke valve is in off position, but still my car conks out. The exhaust isn't black either.

Default 1980 GLC choke issues

Hi I’m new to the forum, I’m grateful for all the info and members here.
I just bought a GLC Wagon 1980. It has choke and carb issues so I hope to glean some info from this thread. It has 97K miles, and was in a barn since 2016. Has California emissions system. It seems to have had an issue of too rich a mix so I’ve monkeyed with the screws on the carb. The plugs, which had been replaced recently, had whiteish deposits, and it smells of fumes sometimes when idling. It had been running ok, after fluajokg
fuel and fuel treatment. Recently it rather suddenly started lurching when accelerating in gear (it’s a 5 speed, 1300 cc’s I believe). It revs fine when not in gear, but put any load on it and it started lurching. I looked around, tried a catalytic converter cleaner which seems to have helped a little. I think now I need to diagnose the carb and choke issue. I have two service manuals and extensive service records. The fuel pump was replaced 20k miles ago or so. Should I disassemble the carb and clean it? Also, fuel filter replaced. I’ll also go through all the emissions control gadgets like the PCV valve and test them.. it seems to be related to whether its fully warmed up, also. Problems seems to arise when it’s at normal temps, not so much when cold
