Figure out where it's coming from. I believe your gas tank is actually under the rear seat cushion, it's possible a fuel line has rotted out and needs to be replaced. (I had that happen on an old 4Runner I had)

ALL I CAN TELL IS THAT IT IS COMING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHEN I DRIVE. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS FOR THE QUICK PREVIOUS RESPONSE.

Here is another way to help check. This procedure will keep the electric fuel pump running while the engine is off. First locate the data connector which is located under the steering column area on the dash, it will be plainly visible. It is a rectangle shape. Next install a jumper wire between the two spots on the pic and then turn the key to the on position but not running. You should now hear the fuel pump humming in the gas tank. This will pressurize the fuel system to help find any leaks. Let it run a few minutes and see if you can observe any gas dripping from somewhere on the car then you'll know where to start.

Thanks I'll give it a try, I'm not the best mechanic but it sounds easy enough.

tell your passengers not to smoke in your car!!! that would not be good. I was just reading about cars that had engine fires in my town. probably from the extreme global warming changes and unmaintained vehicles.

I hope you're joking about global warming changes causing cars to catch fire....Unmaintained vehicles I would believe....

UPDATE: NOW AFTER I SOLVED THE FUEL SMELL PROBLEM, NOW MY 626 HAS A PROBLEM STARTING. IT'S LIKE IT HAS TO TURN OVER A LOT JUST TO GET STARTED LIKE IT'S FLOODED OR SOMETHING. IT SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD BE SOMETHING SIMPLE....IT USED TO JUST START RIGHT UP. THE PEOPLE AT AUTO ZONE "SAID IT MIGHT BE AN EVR VALVE OR THE CATALITIC CONVERTER IS PLUG OR NEEDS TO BE REPLACE. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
