Default existance of fuel pump relay?

I have a 1996 Mazda 626, 4 cylinder engine. Recently the water pump went bad so my husband replaced it, along with the head gasket, the timing belt and put in new spark plugs. Changed the oil too. Went to fire it up and it won't start. The lights come on and the door open signal dinged. You can't hear the fuel pump at all, no clicking or whirling. We would like to check the fuel pump relay or fuse...not a clue. Nothing in the prominently marked "fuse box". Nothing in the Haynes manual, Nothing on any website that I can find. I would really like a picture or a map if anyone else has done this! Thank you
