Default 98 626 2.0 Rebuild

Hi everyone, im new here and just picked up a 1998 626 5 speed with the 2.0L.
Now here is where the fun starts, i bought it for $600 with a knock. im trying to decide weather or not to rebuild it or find a used engine. I pulled the engine out today, pulled the pan off and found real quick what the problem was. The thrust washers were totally gone!! i could move the crank about 1/4 inch back and forth. and with that happening it broke the rear main seal housing and the windage tray.
Well with that being said, i have a question to anybody who knows. I know the pbe engine is basically the same engine but it has a distributer, can i use a probe block and put my head on it? i cant find a 626 engine to save my life but there are about 10 probes in the junk yard by me.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Dennis
