Default 89 323 Transmission Question

I've got an 89 323 hatchback with a 4 speed manual. Anyways the transmission will no longer get into 3rd or 4th gear and has been making some really bad noises when it is in gear. I'm going to be pulling the transmission this weekend and inspecting the clutch and the gears. There is a chance I may need to replace the transmission or at least order another one for parts.

So far online, I can only seem to find the 5 speed sedan transmissions for sale. So my question is... What is required to convert over to a 5 speed? Is it possible? Is it practical?

Default RE: 89 323 Transmission Question

i am not the resident 323 guy, but if i am not mistaken, the minimum that you will need to do is tranny and axles to make it fit. the mounting points may also be different, so you may need to either swap out mounts or have mounts built. like i said though, i am not the resident 323 guy.

all that i can say is, from experience, the only way that you will know what challenges you have for sure, is to have the two trannys in front of you.
