323 stalling problem, any ideas
Hello,
Wifey has a 92 323 very base model, no power anything.
When the car comes to normal op temp, it stalls. Not always, sometimes....but getting worse.
We have had the head gasket done. We have checked the exhaust to make sure it was not plugged.
Wires, plugs and distributor have been done.
No codes in PC. We have since found a temp monitor that would dump fuel into the engine thinking it was not warmed up yet.
Worked for a few days and now doing it again....
Starting to be a money pit...normally it runs great.
Any ideas, pls advise....
Thx
KK

Sounds like your Bypass Air Control/ Idle Air Control Valve is sticking closed intermittently. Valve is on the underside of the throttle body.BAC portion of valve works off of coolant temp. When cold the valve is open and keeps that high idle but as coolant warms up the valve begins closing (idle begins dropping ) untill fully closed. At that time the IAC portion of the valve takes over which is duty cycle controlled by the PCM to maintain a consistant idle speed. You might give a try to removing the valve and giving a good cleaning with carb type cleaner to see if that will help.
