Hello there.
Im new to this forum, and thought i'd do some research on the problem with my car.
1992 Mazda GTR, stock standard - recently had a gearbox problem.
happend during on my way home, as i went onto the motorway. I herd a small *PING*..and all of a suddon..lost all my power
luckily i was going down hill, so i rolled into a carpark close by.and noticed i was still moving(was still in gear).
and i thought to myself..It cant be my gearbox as i can still drive (very very slow, around 5km). rang my brother up, explained what happend and he told me it was my clutch.
But took my car to a local mechanic, and he told me it was sometihng inside my gearbox called Vicous Cupting (Something along those lines of spelling). Said it controls the power from the front wheels and the back wheels. He quoted me $2500 - $3300NZ to get this fixed. (including labour, box sent away and reconditioned). But just curious as to if its worth getting fixed, or better off getting a new box? And can this problem easily be fixed? (had a mate told me that ill be needing a new box).
