1991 Mazda 626 DX with soft brakes
I have a 1991 Mazda 626 DX with soft brakes. When I press the brake pedal it gives very little resistant and has very little effect until it is about halfway down. After the halfway point, the brakes are firm and work correctly. Pumping the brake pedal has no effect on the problem. This car does not have anti-lock brakes.
Where should I start troubleshooting this issue?
Thanks,
GP

RE: 1991 Mazda 626 DX with soft brakes
I would first think that the raer brakes are not properly adjusted. I know that drum brakes have "self adjusters" but seldom work properly. Take the rear drums off to inspect life left on the shoes and adjust if necessary.
