Default RE: 1989 323 Serpentine Belts

I just redid my water pump last weekend, so if my memory is any good, loosening the alternator( loosen the top adjustment bolt and try to pull it towards the engine. You may need to loosen the bottom pivot bolt as well) should give you the slack you need to remove it. And yes, the power steering belt will have to come off. That one should have a tensioner bolt. Loosen the bolt on the side of the tensioner (14mm I think) then the top screw(12mm?) and it should come off. My car doesnt have A/C, so I couldnt say how that would play into this. With the belts properly tensioned, you shouldnt be able to move any pullies, as they all tie into the crankshaft, camshaft, and every belt driven accesory under the hood.
Hope that helps
