Default 1984 mazda 323 van

ive got a 84 van that ive been using as a paddock basher and it seems that the fuel pump has gone on it. First it would do one lap of the paddock and then die, but then fire up again and do another lap and then die, but now it isnt getting any fuel at all so i think its the fuel pump.

But then comes the next issue, im not sure if it has a mechanical or electric fuel pump in it, it looks like it has a mechanical pump hooked in line, but then underneath near the fuel tank is another fuel pump (electric) that is disconected and looks like it used to be used. So im confused about it all, can anyone help me out weather this is supposed to be powered by an electric or mechanical fuel pump? and if it is electric can i put in any low pressure fuel pump?
