Default 01 626 intermittent crank no start

Hi, first post here, I went thought the search and didnt find anything relevant (or on the interwebs either for that matter)
My wifes '01 626 4 cyl is having a crank no start issue, here is the low down;
A little less than a year ago my wifes car suffered a crank, no start episode in the parking lot after shopping, it previously had a p1xxx something or another code (I recall that it had something to do with the downstream o2 or cat) so I'm in triage mode and decide to squirt some fuel into the top end ( post air filter) and it fired right up, this happened a few more times and I finally got to replacing the inline fuel filter, problem solved. Or so I thought, fast forward 8 or 10 months and my wife calls me saying her car is overheating and losing power (this went to voicemail, thanks Sprint) she drove home about 3 miles and I discovered her waterpump/alternator belt was broken, no problem, I fixed that. So now the car is running great and out of the blue, last week another crank, no start. I went to where she was and squirted some fuel in the top end and she drove home.
a couple of days later se calls me says that the car is running rough and the cel is flashing, she is less than a mile from the house and I'm watching our 4 year old so i tell her to drive home, the next morning I start diagnostics, pulling plugs with it running and I discover #3 is not firing (spark aplenty). I pull the plug and the ceramic is burnt, so I replace the plugs and wires, purrs like a kitten. 6 hours later no crank no start, this time only 2 blocks away at a friends house, so I squirted some fuel in the top end and drove it home.
that is where I'm at right now, I'm beginning to suspect a fuel pump or something in the fuel system bleeding down or, call me crazy, vapor lock.
I doubt that the belt or the cel flashing is related but i included it because it could be, I'm sure there is an o2 sensor in my future, any help would be swell, thanks,
Odie
