water pump belt adjustment ??
 

Im in Australia and have a 1996 GE model 626 2.5 litre hatch,,

I need to chenge the timing belt and i have elected to bey a whole kit from Ebay america and save $200 in parts alone

with the kit comes

1x water pump
All rollers
1x belt
1x gasket

PROBLEM is there are 2 different HUBS on the front of the water pump

1 is a star shape flange
1 is a round face flange

To verify my type before i order i need to remove the water pump pulley

I found easily the adjustment on the front belt to remove in order to get to the second belt (water pump) belt

I "cant see easily" the adjustment for the second belt on water pump pulley to remove the belt to view water pump type before i order my parts..

I need to drive the car till my parts arrive in 7 to 10 days..

"Where is the belt adjustment for water pump belt" please before i climb under the car to look,,i looks like a nightmare,,,, front wheel drive garbage:mad:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,steve in australia

Did a little research through my online access to Mazda's resources and found out for ya--there's a tensioner pulley with a long bolt--you should be able to see the thing if you get under the car--find the crankshaft pulley, then look to the left of it (towards the firewall). The long bolt adjusts the tension of course, but to free the tensioner before messing with the adjuster bolt, you'll need to loosen the nut or bolt in the center of the pulley first.

Ok i found it,,i just didn,t wanna climb under in this heat,,its 43c here today,,,,,,,ok ill do it ,,,,,,,good car ,, nice engine,,, needs a free flowing exhaust,,,,,well made car,,, lifter noises are a problem,, car has 105,000kms and lifters are shot,,, not good expensive too,,,,,,,,,,:(

that translates into a little over 65,000 miles. not bad for a '96. => That's a dual overhead cam engine you have. If I'm not mistaken, you can reset valve clearance by replacing the tappets (Mazda calls them "HLA"--head lash adjusters?) on top of the valves. is that what you're referring to?

before you replace them however, check the clearance between each tappet and cam lobe with feeler gauges, with the valve completely closed (cam lobe pointing 180 degrees away from the valve) . I've attached an image of the troubleshooting guide that covers the extent of the noise you get from these, when to replace them, and the clearance spec for them.
