i just bought a 2004 mazda 6 sport wagon it already had some custom things done (some not so great) anyway from what i have read on the internet the stock tire size should be 215 50 17 and the tires on the car are 215 45 17 would that affect the speedometer reading??

Yes, your speedometer will register about 2.5% faster than you're actually traveling, and your odometer will register about 2.5% more miles than you've actually driven. Said another way, for every 1,000 miles you drive, your odometer will log 1,025 miles.
