Timing belt for my 323
Just wondering how much would a new timing belt cost?
I haven't gotten mine changed since I got my car (which was about 6 to 7 months ago).
I have a 92 323, 1.6 liter 4 cyl. I love that car.
Do I need to get it changed? How much would that cost or could I do this my self?
I am thinking doing some major and minor work on it this Jan-Feb and I want to get as much info as I can.
Thanks.

Here you go, a shopping list, including the cam seal, crank seal, belts, tensioner and spring:
BPY1-12-205 BELT,TIMI - 30.72
B630-12-700E TENSIONER - 34.28
BP01-10-602A OIL SEAL - 6.94
B630-12-711E SPRING,TE - 4.50
B3C7-10-602A OIL SEAL - 5.53
In order to get the belts, I'd have to know what options you have, i.e. Power Steering, A/C, etc.

Hey roo, do you guys stock or sell the value line timing belt kits. They seem to be really inexpensive compared to pricing individual component parts. The JE engine kit shows retail of $116.35 and yet the pricing individually tops at $358.05. At least that was true untill I looked at the one for Alucards 323. Kit is Part #BPY0-12-207-MV and retails for $71.35 but only has the tensioner and belt so it ends out being a few dollars more. Did not make sense on that one. You do also get an instruction sheet that gives a fairly decent how to with pics so maybe is worth the few extra dollars for the do-it-yourselfer.
I mean I am willing to do it Babyhuey. I just want to know what I am getting my self into.
Is there any thing special I need to know when doing this?

I am very confident that you will be able to tackle the t-belt replace Alucard. Is not a very complicated procedure but mainly involves taking note of what you are taking apart and how it would then go back together which I know you are very capable of doing. The t-belt kit has some very good instructions and pics and will send you any additional info needed. You can do the repair just fine if you want to and we are all here to give a quick guide as needed. You will be fine. Have a few tips that will help when you start, just give a post.

Ok well I want to do some other things first on my list. But I will want to buy the part soon.
So If I get some time off I might just want to do it.
Where can I order the parts at? I know you guys gave me some part numbers and stuff but does that mean that I need to order them at a Mazda dealership or store?
I mean I guess that would be the way to go.
I just have no experiance ordering parts befor.
Any thing I should know?
Thanks again Roo and Doug

Ordering parts is easy, just go to the counter and tell them what you want. They will ask for the pertinent info. You can go OEM if you want to, or aftermarket. I did the t belt on my Protege and bought a Goodyear Gatorback belt.
It is common practice in most shops to replace the tensioner with the t belt, along with the front engine oil seals that were priced above. This is because you already have the front of the engine torn down, so might as well do everything. Shops have more liability than a do it yourselfer when it comes to repairs.
When I worked at an Acura dealer we did everything stated above plus the water pump. This is because the water pump was driven by the t belt.
Good Luck!
