Salvage yard transmission

Salvage yard transmission
Thanks for your help in advance. I have a 1998 626 with a four-cylinder, automatic transmission. My transmission was bad so I swapped out my transmission with a salvage yard transmission. I put in 2 gallons of fluid, and I turned on the car, shifted into each gear for a few minutes with the parking brake engaged to get the fluid into the transmission completely. But the car will not engage into any gear. I thought that maybe I put too much fluid in so I drained it a little bit, but that didn't help. I am wondering if I bought a bad transmission or if I have done something incorrectly. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Did you use your old torque converter? or 1 that came with the replacement trans?
Have you checked the fluid level on the dip stick?
Have you bolted the torque converter to the flex plate?
Are the axles & CV joints turning?

GR, yes I used the torque converter that came with the junk yard tranny and it is bolted to the flex plate. The axles and cv joints are turning. When I check the dip stick the fluid was way above the max level. That is why I drained some fluid. Any ideas?
