Default Rough Idoling

My '04 Mazda 6 idles very rough and often stops. The code that Autozone got is Too lean at idle. The car accelarates great and runs fine driving normally.A local independentmech. said that's it's a warped Intake manifold, he claims is a very common issue with Mazdas. He did not remove. When listening to the engine there is a sucking sound that we can not locate. Could this be a vaccum hose or possibly a blown manifold gasket? No fluid leaks.

Are you a Michael Jackson fan??? (rough "idoling?")
'Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I'm also sorry that it sounds like you're in for it, but I've not heard of this particular problem before and don't quite know what to recommend.
Is you carthe 2.3L-4, or the V6, DuroTec engine? If the 4 cyl, it is possible to get a Cosworth intake that is machined, cast aluminium. It would, no doubt be a little hard to get and I am not aware of what mods need to be done to make it work.
You might also have the stock manifold machined flat again and use a thicker gasket to help avoid heat/warping in the future. Other than those two things, I don't know what to tell you.

Thanks Vigin1, and nope not a michael fan at all... well back in the sixties when he was still male. Sorry!
Yes our 6 is the 4 banger. I looked around under the hood last evening and noticed that the air boot off the airbox and most of the vacuum hoses looked cracked and maybe dry-rotted. I have an appt. tomorrow morning at the dealer's to get it serviced. hopefully maybe just a vacuum leak or air leak.

The '60's?!!?!!? Gaul-leee! You must be as old as I am!!!

Well, best of luck. I hope that's all it is. How many miles on the ole' clock that you have rotted vacuum lines already?

Ok truth be known, I'm the same age as michael. 70k on the car, and it's an '03 not '04... that's my Malibu Maxx. Yes I was surprised at the shape the hoses are in. I have an '01 Honda Goldwing with 80K and I'm still using stock battery an pretty much everything else except tires. It's a one owner car kind of, my daughter brought from me a couple years back. Hey! Maybe that's it.

Ok, my rough Idol would be Frank Zappa!

Truth be told, I'm one yr older than Michael. '57 was a good year.... for Chevys.

OK, I don't know if Frank was rough, but he was different.

over a week and nearly $1300.00 later.... Actually they wanted $1380.00 but I fussed about 200 bucks for spark plugs. The cure: replaced all belts and hoses and the purge valve. Plus spark plugs. Seems to be idling fine now.
