Hello!

I'm considering buying a 2004/2005/2006 Mazda6 (any suggestions?), and I have a question about the possibility of replacing rims on them. For example, if I bought the car with the default styled tires but wanted the rims to be black, would I have to replace the whole tire, use something like this (link), or something like this (link)?

I'm a bit new here, and this is the first time I'll be buying a car, so please bear with my lack of knowledge on the subject

 

Depending on the spec/grade car you buy, it may have 15", 16", 17" or even 18" wheels & tyres. If you change for a different size rim then you will need tyres to match.

 

You can get replacement rims for your particular size rubber. If your current rubber is 16 inch, you'll want to upgrade to 18's. Don't go too wide as the real wide tires suck in wet weather.

Very interesting, thanks for your replies guys. So it looks like I'll have to buy new metal "insides" for the tires, correct? Do you have any experience as to how much it would cost to replace those OR how much it would cost to replace the tires with ones that have those insides? Thanks again!

 

I'm guessing you are pretty young and on a limited budget??
There's no reason at all to go to 18" tires and wheels. They're more expensive, heavier and only useful if you plan on some competition driving a.k.a. Autocross. Otherwise save your money and go with a smaller wheel/cheaper tire. By cheaper I mean smaller. Don't buy cheap tires of any size. Check the rating of any given tire for your car. There are many of them out there.
You'll have a better ride out of smaller wheel and less chance of cracking a wheel when taking on a pothole. A taller tire sidewall/skinnier tread width/smaller wheel has a longer narrower tread patch on the road and does best for traction and especially steering control in winter weather too.
