noises from under car
Hello all.
I have a problem with my mazda 323 1.8 Automatic. There is a noise coming from beneath the car when i accelerate. When i reach about 40mph there is a noise which sounds like air being taken into the engine. It lasts for a few seconds or longer if I hold the accelerator pedal in that position. I also get it when overtaking, so might be during gear changes. It may be the exhaust, Engine, or even gearbox noise. Other than the noise the car handles perfect. I think it has got worse since i bought it over a year ago. Maybe someone out there knows what this might be. hope so

The noises can be heard coming from the dash behind the stereo. inside the car it can sound like an electrical noise. difficult to explain. it doesn't effect the running of the car but worried that it might be a problem with either the engine, exhaust, or automatic gearbox. can anyone help???

OK. I think the noise is coming from behind the centre console at the bottom. there are some electrical boxes there. think the noise is electrical. something to do with the acceleration. The car is Automatic. the noise is similar to the noise from a computer when it is working. maybe it is the ECU. not sure where this is situated in this car. Has anyone had the same noises???? cannot find a manual for this car, so i am just guessing at the moment. Any replies would be greatful. Thanks steviec[8D]

Ok. although I got no answers on this web site, It may interest someone out there as to the reason for the noise????? I had decided to take the car to the local garage for them to investigate the noise from car. Before taking it, and as it was a nice day I decided to have one last look, as the noise seemed to be getting worse. I eventualy found the culprit!!!! There is a metal heat shield over and fastened to the mid section of the exhaust. This had corroded at the bolts, and was allowing it to vibrate at various times, like when accelerating. I removed the shield, and now the car sounds like a dream (as it should).
so now I'm feeling very smug with myself on a job well done.
I will just have to obtain and replace the heat shield and securing brackets.[8D][8D]
