Half a 5 gallon jug of water was spilled in the back of the car and left to sit for about a week. The engine fires up but as soon as I press the shift safety to move it to anything besides park, it shuts down entirely. I tried bypassing the shift safety to see if it was related but seemingly no luck. Rear brakelights are functional. Im not exactly a car guy so unsure where to start but any tips are appreciated.

 

You should have an engine check light. If not i am sure you will find a DTC(S) if you scan or have the ECU "properly" scanned?
