Mazda 3 2006 Low Beam Headlight Issue

Hi,

Both low beams stopped working the other night. So far I have done the following:

  • checked the 15 amp fuses and they are both good;
  • metered the plugins and they show 12v DC;
  • confirmed that the bulbs are good
So I am stumped. The next thing I guess is a relay? But I am not sure which one is for the headlights (there is a 40Amp one which says "HEAD"). Also, if I am getting 12v at the plugin and I am plugging the bulbs directly into this plugin - shouldn't they light up? They don't and I am guessing that the draw caused by the bulbs isn't being allowed due to a bad relay?

Does this sound likely or am I totally off base?

Thanks

Have you both 12+ & a earth at the bulb socket?

90% of the time both headlights quit working it is the bulbs. If not the bulbs then i would suspect the switch. That is assuming the fuses and relays check good. A test light and wiring diagram will sort it out pretty quick.

Hi,

Thank you for the replies. I found out the problem. It was a combination of a burnt out bulb on the passenger side and a faulty plug on the drivers side.

Still surprised I was reading 12v DC on the drivers side from that bad plug - but it wouldn't power the bulb when connected. Ah well, problem solved at least.

Thank Again
