Unhappy Lift gate hands free disabled

Hi, this is my first post so hope I am in the correct area. Recently purchased a CX8 Asaki and had a tow bar fitted by Mazda. To my horror, only after I picked the car up I found the hands free function does not work. I only found out through social media that this function is disabled when a tow bar is fitted. Mazda did not inform me themselves. I called another Mazda dealer and they confirmed this saying the tow bar brackets cover the sensors. How ridiculous. I paid for this function so expect it to work. Mazda said there is no fix for it, however, on social media, someone mentioned that there is a way to get it to work by moving the sensor. Not sure how as I believe the sensor is made up of 2 wires in parallel the width of the bumper and clipped into the bumper. Does anyone know if there is such a fix, and if so, how to do it.
thanks
Dean

The CX-8 is only sold in Japan, NZ & OZ, so being a predominantly US based forum you won't get much help. In saying this, I would assume the handsfree system would be the same as the CX-9, & also gets disabled when fitting a towbar.

The sensor usually gets removed and thrown in the bin on the CX-9, can't confirm CX-8 instructions.
