Help, Mazda protege Idles way too low!
Help my 91 protege 1.8L 5spd (170,000 mi) runs great but idles way to low. when coming off the highway and i step in the clutch the idle speed drops so far that the engine sometimes dies. If it does stay running it will idle around 200rpm. When its cold in the morning it idles quite well around 600-800 rpm.
This past summer when it was quite hot out it would idle just the opposite..way to HI sometimes 1800 to 2500 rpm..when the engine was hot.. When it cooled a bit it would idle around 1000-1200 rpm.
Any ideas....Air flow meter? some other adjustment?
THanks for the help!!!

If I am not mistaken, the idle speed drops when you depress the clutch pedal and shift to neutral. If so, please note that we had similar problem with one of our European 626 in the past. The problem was defective neutral switch. You may therefore wish to check the neutral and perhaps the clutch switch as well.
