FUEL INDICATOR - MX5

Default FUEL INDICATOR - MX5

Fuel indicator records petrol level very intermittently - even when full tends to show no fuel .
Any ideas on how to resolve.
no manual as japanese import - garage is at a loss

Intermittent or erratic fuel gauge problems usually tend to be due to fault in the level sending unit within the fuel tank. Checking is still a simple matter of getting the thing to fail, disconnect level sender connector and installing a variable resistor in place of level sensor. Full tank should be 3 ohms, 1/2 tank 57 ohms, Empty 110 ohms at least in North American market. Would not think it would be that different for Japanese vehicle.
