Default Engine cover wore hole into engine??

Started smelling oil and saw some on ground. Open the hood and removed the engine cover (which never actually clicked in properly since I bought it).
Oil around the left side of engine (passenger side) . I notice a small hole that I can feel engine air pressure coming out of it when the car is on with oil around it. At first I think its some sensor that maybe popped off
Closer inspection I notice one of the arms of the engine cover fit into this hole and appears it wore a hole right through the engine
The other arm connection also is worn but never punctured a hole yet. Has anyone ever seen this?

Hole into engine. It appears there should be some kind of rubber stopper there.

Arm of underside of engine cover

Underside of engine cover

The other arm holder is worn but not quite a hole punctured through.

Clearly the rubber grommets are missing. Overtime the plastic locator peg has vibrated on the rocker cover and ground away the plastic.

Its a shame you didn't fix the miss-fitting engine cover earlier.

Bought this car only a few months ago as a CPO and never had to remove the cover to notice. This should be something covered by the CPO.

Definitely get it towed back to the dealer you bought it from and politely ask them to rectify this problem. If your dealer doesn't rectify it, don't hesitate to contact Mazda USA direct.
