Default Custom Exhaust

I know alot of people on the forum have aftermarket exhaust on there Mazda's, and I know that the aftermarket parts can be pretty expensive. i was wondering if there are any people out there who are handy with stainless steel, welding and have a Mandrel bend machine. If this sounds like anyone out there, has anyone made there own exhaust pipe and muffler for there car. I would like to go with a catback system, but the price is to high, in my opinion, for something that does not seem to be to difficult on your own. The exhaust pipe would be the easiest part of the whole process, as long as you hvae access to a lift so you can stand under your car. the muffler also is a pretty basic design, or you can make it more complex by having more chambers. With the internet, there is really no limit to what someone can make with acces to the right tools. I am thinking about doing this myself, i will post info here if I actually do it or not.

My friend made his own headers out of stainless. It's a pain to weld. The tubing alone for his headers was $1600 USD. If you are wanting to go stainless, I'd either go with one of the kits already made, or ask your local exhaust shop if they work in stainless.

I actually have family in the stainless steel business so I might be able to get it that way, and there is a local shop that can install for me, any way I want to have it done, the only thing is they use crush bends, which limit the amount of exhaust pushed thru the pipe at one time. i am going to check into it further and keep everybody posted.

what was the price they charged to do it, and what state are you in? since i have an uncle that owns a stainless steel company, I should be able to get the pieces of steel from him, for the exhaust pipe, and possibly a custom muffler. You can look online and see how they are made and see how simple they actually are, with no moving parts, just tubing inside. I am going to do some more research on it, and get some more info, and I think it might be possible to do.
