Does anyone know the max amount I can shave off my b2200 cylinder head?
im looking to ad some compression/ HP. Currently im thinking of shaving .020” to .025” off
Typically there are indicators cast into the bottom of the cylinder head to let machinists know if the head has been milled or not. On the Mazda B2200 head those indicators are circled in RED on your cylinder head. As long as these don't disappear during the milling, you should be fine, I would think. That said, the stock B2200 engine is a non-interference engine, milling the head may change that somewhat, depending on how much is milled off.
Also, higher compression is not really going to help the 8-valve head breathe any better. What will help it is to have your stock camshaft re-ground by Delta Camshaft or a similar company.....and adding a Weber and exhaust header will improve it even more.
Are you taking the cylinder head into a machine shop to have the head milled?
Here is the pic of your head with those indicators circled in RED.
Thanks for the informative reply. Yes, taking it to a machine shop that i work at. Engine currently has a weber carb and exhaust header, unfortunately grinding the cam is not an option at the moment.
You're welcome! I have built a B2200 engine for a friend and we used his cylinder head off of his previous engine that had a re-ground camshaft in it.......it does add a bit more power......he also had the Weber 38/38 and the engine was bored 1mm overbore. It ran pretty good.
Keep us posted on how it goes!
Here is a link to a forum dedicated to the 1986-1993 Mazda trucks if you want to discover more on these great little trucks!
You are in Maine. There is more to consider (you are missing a few thoughts) then just shaving the head to do what you are contemplating.I strongly suggest you talk to a machine shop preferably a performance engine machine shop!
Sorry I don't really work on these engines anymore but have and I did own and operate a performance engine machine shop.Sorry but I am not really going to respond again in this thread. BeB2000 is experienced hobbyist for this model Mazda.
