I have a 2003 protege 5. The airbag code just started flashing two slow followed by 6 fast.
Anyone know what this means?
I tried the website someone posted in the forum but that database is not working.

 

Is your Protege equipped with side air bags that would be located in the outer edge of the seat back?? Will usually say SRS or SAS imprinted into the seat back outer edge. The 26 flashcode is indicating a fault in the drivers side air bag module circuitin the seat back.This is often an area of repair usually best left to repair shop as doing the wrong thing in trying to check could set off the air bag. The dealer has a simple tool that can be plugged in to the system in place of the air bag. If light then goes out then a faulty air bag module would be indicated. Can also look at internall resistance of air bagsystem components withscan toolthat you can not normally do without deployment.
You are aware that Safety Restraint warrant is 6 years or 60,000 miles? If you are still within this period then inspection and repair would be free.
