97 b4000 Temperature Gauge problem

97 b4000 Temperature Gauge problem
I just bought a 97 b4000 4x4 4L V6 and the temperature gauge on the dash is pointing at normal when the truck has been sitting over nite and its cold. So when the truck is running it hits hot and sets of the check gauges light. anyway of fixing this so I actually know what temperature range I am running at? thanks for any reply's
