Default 200sx wont start starter maybe????

My friend has a 1995 200sx and it wont start. I got her battery checked and that wasnt it, so I'm pretty sure its the starter, all the dash lights come on when the key is turned but there is no response when turning the key. So thats what made me think it was either the battery or starter. I was just wondering if anyone has changed a starter on one of these and how hard it is. I have limited tools besides my socket set, since I'm at school. Just wondering if you guys think this is the problem and if I'm gonna have enough tools with my 200 piece set. Oh yeah, can you bring in a starter to get tested to see if its bad. Thanks for any help.

Matt

If I am correct, the 200sx is a Nissan...correct? I don't know if there are many Nissan guys on a Mazda forum. As far as seeing if a starter is faulty use a test light on the solenoid to see if power is getting there. The solenoid wire should be the smallest gauge wire. Have someone turn the key to start and see if the test light comes on. The nissan might have relays too, I don't know.

Yeah really the wrong forum. If it is the starter, you should be able to hit the starter fairly hard with a hammer to get it to turn over. IE 1 person crank to the start position while the other hits it. If it starts, it is the starter.

Starter, commonly a 1/2 inch socket and 1/2 an hour. If it is poorly located it might take an hour or two. And as a suggestion, pull wires, remove starter, replace starter, replace wires. That and disconnect the battery. A live starter that is not attached to an engine has enough torque to mess you up if something goes wrong.

Do the headlights come on? I mean really if you have enough power to motor the starter and it is not motoring you are looking at a starter, the solenoid, maybe some relays, or the starter switch (ignition). Most starter repair shops can tell you if it is bad if you take it off the car and give um some bucks to open it up. Look in the phone book.
