2009 Mazda 5 Suspension
I just bought a 2009 Mazda 5 Minivan. I am just a Mom who wants quality lifetime parts, a quiet and safe ride and something affordably manageable. I live in northern Wisconsin farm country and drive on poor, (I mean terrible-potholes, fill ins and uneven blacktop), blacktop roads daily and dirt roads often. We also deal with harsh winters and short mild summers. The vehicle that I bought doesn't have anything wrong with the suspension as of yet but rides rough and will eventually break. I am looking at upgrading my suspension now before I run into issues later. Because of the roughness of the ride I am assuming that the back struts/shocks are already having some issues or the brackets are starting to loosen up. I am the type of person who can be sold on expensive crap that breaks down easily because I don't know about parts and mechanics love my stupidity. So I am looking for suggestions as to what other Mazda owners have used to upgrade suspension and what the outcome was. This vehicle is also used to transport a wheelchair bound child and height of the vehicle always needs to be taken into consideration.
I have have researched some parts online but I seem to hit road blocks, especially since I don't know anything about cars or parts. So far I like reviews for Bilstein B6, however I have found that they don't sell these for the Mazda 5. I can use B4's but I am not sure if these would hold up to the daily road conditions. Are there mods that can be done to fit the B6's and still be cost effective?
If B6's can't be installed then I am considering Godspeed Mono SS. However, I can't find a lot of information on these other than quality reviews. I am not sure if these are good for all around use like off-roading or are designed more for racing. I'm assuming that something designed to hold up to off-roading would hold up better to the daily road conditions I deal with. I drive highway daily too so I need something universal. What are your suggestions? Am I completely off track and looking at ridiculas high cost brands that are unneeded for my daily needs? What is a quality Strut and Shock brand that you would recommend I check out? Life span and safety are my biggest concerns since I transport my kids during the winter months.
Last but not least, since I am wanting to upgrade the suspension, what else should I replace while I am having work done? I want the parts to last. Should I add poly bushings and live with the noise that I read about? Should I replace sway bar and components? What brand would you recommend? What parts am I missing in considering this upgrade? I would like to stay under $1000 for all parts but can go up to $1500 if it is necessary. I understand that this does not include labor costs. Please give me your thoughts and input.
Sincerely,
A Mom who is willing to spend money if it improves safety, comfort and life span of the vehicle.
