Default Dash Install Kit Question

Just installed a Pioneer DEH-P3000IB into my 1991 Mazda 626 with the supposedly ' Vehicle Specific' mounting kit. I will live with the results however the kit is not specific to my 1991 - 626 as I now have a fairly large gap at the bottom where a storage bin was located. The factory head unit was a 1-1/2 DIN and the aftermarket kit (Best Kit's) is a 2 DIN which did not allow for the re-install of the original storage bin. I just wonder is there a way to modify the new mounting kit that would allow me to install the old storage bin.

You would probably know better than we, having installed the kit.
Is there any way to cut it down to allow for the cubby ti be reinstalled?

I think if I remove the bottom cross-bar and trim the lower
side plates of the new H/U retainer 1/4" to 3/8" then I'll be able to put
the old storage box clips back, which mount to the back side of the original trim stack. I may even try tin bashing a new bracket as the head unit seems a little loose. I've attached a few pics of the new HU install, to give you a better idea what I'm dealing with.

I looked at the instructions for the trim kit and went with the setup for a
Mazda 323 as the OEM Head Unit was the same size as well the layout was
similar, bin at the bottom. Also got a link from the Pioneer website for
Metraonline.com the instructions were similar to what I mentioned before of
removing the bottom cross-bar and trim the lower side plates of the
retainer. Better now as the storage bin is back in place, but I can't place
the trim plate around the deck as it pushes the factory stack out to far and
the one that comes with the kit fits in to loose. (perhaps a little silly
putty, lol) See the pic's attached of the end results. Maybe I'll see if I
can cut up a piece from the kit to fill the small space under the deck trim
somehow and attach it with putty also
