Slipping Gears but Mechanic Couldn't Replicate Problem
Husband was driving our 2006 Mazda 6 V6 yesterday, he drove it 1.5 hours with a somewhat heavy loud (boxes and tools) and then drove it 1.5 hours back home.
When he got into town the tranny started slipping, or appearing to slip, between 3rd and 4th gear. It would stop revving briefly. He drove it home very carefully, checked the transmission fluid which seemed fine, then this morning we brought it to a mechanic who couldn't replicate the problem.
We are concerned as we are currently moving over the course of the next few weeks and want the car to be in good shape.
Any idea what is happening? It slipped randomly for about 10 minutes then has been ok since?
It basically would stop revving the engine even though his foot was on the gas.
Thanks guys,
Tori

Trans diagnosis is kind of difficult thru the www. Transmission fluid breaks down like any other fluid and needs to be changed on a regular interval. I'll take a wild guess that every now and then you get a small dose of snow up there. Loss of traction, wheel spin, builds up extreme amounts of heat in the trans torque converter. Service the trans with a complete fluid change including filter. If that is not successful, it's trans time.
