2002 626 2.0 TD glowplug dashboard light?
Hello fellow Mazda owners, I come here looking for help regarding my precious 2002 626 GF (4-door) with a 2.0 TD engine. The car has 197 000 km, and it is in very good condition. A few months ago the glowplug dashboard light started blinking, and a quick search told me that the most common issues could be a faulty glow plug or relay. The car works completely fine. If I disconnect the battery, the dashboard warning goes away but returns after a few days. So, let me guide you through the steps I made:
First I installed new glow plugs, and issue remains. Then I sent it to a "reputable" electrician, in hope that a relay would be faulty, but he told me it was fine, and his diagnostic told him there's an error with the camshaft sensor. Full of hope, I went to my mechanic who then told me the car doesn't have one - it has a crankshaft sensor. Might have looked like a fool He did confirm the engine works completely fine.
Then I went to a specialised workshop for older Japanese cars, who have a specialised diagnostic for Mazdas (I'm not sure how this works, with all these different diagnostics, I'm sorry). They told me they fixed it, that there was an issue with vacuum? Not sure how it is related, but I expected it to be solved, although I was sceptical since the clock was off and the radio was on default settings, so I knew the battery was disconnected at some point. Of course, the issue wasn't solved - the dashboard light started blinking again after a week (same as if I'd disconnect the battery).
At this point I'm basically looking for any direction, as I really love this car and it is in pretty good condition. After a quick call the specialised Mazda (for old cars as well) refused to take it, saying the can't solve it. Noting the car has a crankshaft sensor, and the diagnostics told him that, could this be faulty? To remind you, the car works completely fine, and I already made a weekend trip over 1000 km with it.
