1985 Mazda 323 BFMR from New Zealand
Hi guys. Heres a few pictures of my 323 BFMR since I bought it around 6 weeks ago. I've returned the pin striping to factory red, replaced the chrome wipers back to factory black, added chrome door handles and replcaed the rear tail lights with the facelift 1988 lights. Also the number plate has been moved back to the center of the bumper to hide that horrible looking cut in it.
Here's a link to it when I bought it and below is what it looks like now.

And below are the mag wheels I'm getting... eventually...

I like much better!!! The red really sets it off, imo.
I'm not sure about your choice of wheels (my opinion only,) but I KNOW the wheels on it don't match the year, make and model of the car.

I was thinking about this last night, again this is only my opinion and it is certainly your car to do what you want with:
Your car is from the mid-'80's. Multi-spoked, "mesh" wheels like BBS and other copies (Rial wheels come to mind) were the norm then for the aftermarket and for many manufacturer's too.
To me, huge wheels, like we have today just wouldn't do it justice. It would impede the flow of its lines... but I have a suggestion (or two).
1) Don't try to go modern on a wheels style. Stick with the classics.
2) If you want the low profile tire look and feel, go with a 17 or 18" wheel that has a fairly large outer lip. That way the wheels won't look as big and seem so out of proportion in the wheel wells but will get the job done for you.
The old tried and true Enkei RPF1's are like this. They look good, have a classic design, are lightweight, fairly inexpensive and imo, would look right for the car too. Black might be a good choice to keep your black/white/red theme going. You could even pinstripe the lip in a matching red!! Gold would be too much, imo. Adding another color to the theme would make it seem (too) busy. And while silver would work better..... same thing, imo.
