Default Transmission case questions for CD4E

Hi, I am replacing the bushings, bearings and friction disks and while cleaning the empty case, I dropped the case that holds the drum gears and it cracked.

Can I go to the wrecking yard and pull a case out and uses that?

Would I use the servo from my old case or the servo from the case from the yard?

Any other complications like binding, clearance issues, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum

It would be all around better to have the crack welded.

I weld both manual and many automatics to repair and more for the purpose of increasing case support and strength. And have done welding on both fully assembled transmissions as well as cores .

Thanks for the welcome.

Let's just say the case is no longer usable because of my curiosity.

I pried the case to see how far the crack goes and some bits and pieces fell out at the impacted in area in chunks but I did find out. It goes about half way and splits, one line goes all the way to the oil pump mounting and the other goes to the valve body area and stops there.

Yea, there's no way I can trust this case seeing so many chunks and those crack lines even when welded up.

My main concern is the servo, do I use the servo from the cracked case or the servo that'll come with the newer case.

The cracked case servo is no groove and I've seen videos where they comes with 1-groove, 2-grooves, and no groove for this cd4e transmissions.

Thanks in advance.

Ok then you should find a core that is the same year and swap out all your good parts.
Unless you can confirm by way of visually comparing and by looking up part number of each part. This way you know that if there were any changes they are compatible and you won't have problem after the rebuild and install.
You must have really dropped it?
I have welded some seriously damaged cases but can't say as I ever had part fall out. At least in the garage. I did have a TH400 blow apart (torque converter ballooned and then grenaded). @ 100 + mph at Sear point raceway drag racing. They had to shut the track down for 30 minutes to clean up all the part spread over half the track. LOL

I searched and called all the yards in 100miles and there are only 2 fwd cd4e but a gazillion v6 tributes, escapes, and a few mariners.

I searched craigslist, offerup, facebook marketplace, call transmission shops and no fwd case either.

These two are 05 tribute and 06 escape. I didn't realized how rare these fwd transmissions are.

Might be a really long time before a 2008 fwd pops up.

Thanks for the help

My advise again... contact a Mazda auto recycler that is connected to the nationwide auto dismantler/recyclers association. They will locate and have a transmission (if available) shipped to them or directly to you.
Below is one company we use often to find used parts for customers.
Try this:

Used Car Part Finder: Search Online

because you did not detail your member profile information I can't know what state you reside in, so it narrows some advice information.

I just did a search for 2008 mazda tribute 2.3 cd4e 4x2. Nothing came up.

I searched for the same year escape/mariner 2.3 cd4e 4x2 and Nothing as well.

I'll just chance it at this point with the 06 escape from the junkyard.

Probably just use the servo that came with the yard case and replace everything else.

Thanks for the help.
