Switching rims Miata to Protege

I have a 2000 Protege with OEM 14" rims. I wanted to switch the rims with a set of 1990 14" Miata OEM rims with the same bolt pattern. I tried to use the rims, but they don't seat correctly because they hang up on the trailing edge of the calipers - which are new.

Should the Miata wheels have fit? or are the replacement calipers the problem?
