Are you one that goes 1 MPH Over the posted Speed Limit?
In the USA, approximately 46.5% of drivers consider going more than 15 miles per hour over the speed limit on the freeway to be extremely or very dangerous, with 40.6% admitting to doing it at least a few times in the last 30 days. Additionally, 43% of drivers reported speeding more than 15 mph over the limit on a freeway in a national survey.

New laws.... Long over due!!! Some of you live in states that in the N0.1 lane otherwise known as the "fast lane" if you are not going the MPH with the traffic you can cause road rag. bumper riders, and that driver that will show you how small he is by passing and cutting back over in front of you by a 1/2 car length or less.
I personally love these brave mindless soles because front and rear dash cams they become starts on several youtube sites pertaining to dumb and dangerous drivers on the roads and high ways.

There is no excuse anymore with GPS . Most drivers unfortunately take advantage of thoughts that 1 mile is ok then 3 and then 5 etc. The MPG limits are set as vehicle code in every state.
Thinking that it is even ok to go 1 MPH over the speed limit tends to indicate the true mentality of how some think.

* This U.S. State Will Now Fine You For Going 1 MPH Over the Speed Limit

Although this thread was meant to alert members that many states may adopt this same new LAW in the 2 states as *Florida and Georgia just did it was not meant to describe any personal feeling about vehicle codes laws of how one drives. The fact remains that most all last decade vehicles manufactured have a heads-up display with GPS NAV and or very accurate digital speedometers or even analog speedometers. So, the margin of error is something that will soon be in the past. Also, the more accurate radar detectors now do not have that margin of 1-3 MPH margin as they once did. So you can either be more aware of your speed or not. Your choice and your record that could increase your insurance and drain your bank. In the states adopting stricter enforcement of speed laws ,traffic courts have been notified in many states now not to be as lenient on those that get speeding tickets as they use to. If you are a person that frequent + 5 to 10MPH over the speed limits it is going to cost, you now for that ticket.
But if you must illegally speed then I suggest you invest in a Radar Jammar. Mine about 15 years ago was almost $2000. and it is now obsolete for the most part with the new Jammar doctors and speed scanners that the CHP uses in my state.

Here is another fact to consider when reading some members responses on this forum.

The top 2 most ignored vehicle code violations in the USA include:

I would think that the design rules for cars sold in the US would be the same as global rules. A speedo cannot display a speed slower than the true speed with a margin of 10% plus (Aust 4kmh). This means if you stick to your speedo and the posted limit you should never get booked. Many drivers here think plus 10km/h is acceptable and cry when they get booked.

I read that but most info is outdated? And assumed information. Hard to find variable facts . And I am not sure how well using anything I read as a defense to get out or a reduction in a speeding ticket??
But hey it’s always worth a try… right? 😂
having raced professionally and having gauges that show trap speeds as well the official time slip even on stock Speedo in 1968 vehicles were accurate . Now older 1950s and 1960s vehicles with bouncing Speedo needles , they tend to fit the examples of the mythical % of up to 10% error number?

Car and driver and road and track have posted Speedo reading info for decades and as I recall seldom claimed speedometer to be off road testing the latest ne vehicles?

The info on speedo accuracy is the latest and was introduced here in 2006 so yea old but current. A speeding fine is just that and 1mph over is rediculous. I know Victoria and Queensland are a lot tougher than NSW. I had a friend in the highway patrol and he said 10% plus 1 was what they went off before issuing a fine but that was around 10 years ago. I always keep an eye on the speedo simply because I don't like giving money away. Must be from my pommie heritage. Everyone speeds by and gives me strange looks but I got a race car and get let loose on the track. The only limit is my driving ability which is not that good but enough to have lots of fun.

In my younger driving days, I was more of the speed limits were for those who couldn't drive mind set, until I got too many of them.
But I never have and never will, in all my years of driving, ever exceeded that limit in school zones.
Drivers in my state can and have been popped for any speed over the posted 15 MPH in a school zone.
That said in the northern part of my state you can literally drive for hours on the Interstate and not see another vehicle.
I have exceeded the speed limit there by 100mph plus on multiple occasions.
Though my 200+ speed was on a closed airport runway in a sanctioned speed trial.
At those speeds the issue is moose, deer and bear

You would be correct for the speedometer, but it also depends on the year and sometimes the trim level.
My 2020 CX-5 has navigation. The speedometer is digital and the GPS Infotainment screen speed is GPS based.
Many other car brands have GPS based speedometers.
