$104 for a spare key?
I have had my Mazda 2001 Miata for 9 years now. I was a member of the New York Hudson Valley Miata club, and have enjoyed riding with the group when It was active for years. I have over the years installed headers, free flow exhaust and cold air induction. I love the car.
Today I went down to Adzam Miata Bedford Rd Bedford Hills, NY and was charged $104 for a spare key. A minimum time of one hour computer time for what amounted to 15 minutes work. Is this a typical rip off? and is there anything we can do as a group to stop this. Mozart |
not really much that we can do. my boss just had to get two truck re-keyed at our local shop and they charged him $250 a set. he got two keys per truck, but it still came out to $500 for a couple of lost keys. just how it goes with these kinds of keys.

It's unbelieveable what these keys cost!!! What ever happened to the plain and simple key!

Check your local hardware or locksmith store. Some of the bigger stores have a car key programmer, where they can copy/program the key/chip providing that you have an original key. I was able to get one for under $30 for 2003 Acura MDX. It took them less than 5 mins to copy one.
