New From Utah

Just picked up an Mx3. The plan is to build it up for Rallycross and eventually Stage rally. Hoping to find info and help.

Beyond the obvious performance/suspension upgrades it will need is the fact that that cars body has a ton of flex. You should think about welding the rear hatch to the body. Maybe the doors too.

Yeah The flex will have to be dealt with. I can't weld doors closed for safety reasons, and the back i will have to be accessible as that's where spares and tools and gear will be stored. The plan does call for a NASA/Rally America approved roll cage to go in within the next year to year and a half. Hopefully I don't fold the car in half before then. I'm planning the obvious strut bars but that only deals with a little side to side flex.

My biggest issue currently is lifting the car about 1 inch. Everything I can find is designed to lower the car.

You could roll the wheel wells and put bigger wheels on it. The roll cage should help some on flex. I always thought those would look cool if you could mod it to have a truck bed instead of the hatch. That hatch is a problem. I used to do more rattle chasing on those than any other car. Maybe some extra bracing in the back and some pins in the back of the hatch to stop some flex.

I'm hoping to be able to fit something like these on...
Gravel Tyres

I thought i'd have to go to 15" rims but looks like Dmack has me covered with 14's. The DMG3 is listed as being special for small front drive cars so it seems like a good place to start.

Hope its okay to ask this here. Looking at my Airbox and there is a hose coming out of the lower right side feeding down to another box down behind the front headlight. What is that?

If it is a small diameter hose and connects to a nipple on the air cleaner box then it is for EGR solenoid vent. If is a larger hose and coming off a charcoal canister then it is an evap hose to keep fuel tank pressure stable.

Its the big hose. So then how does it work to remove that and replace it with a KN cone intake? does it mess up fuel tank pressure stuff?

hixx 12-09-2014 08:04 AM

When the engine runs fuel is removed from the tank,so air has to be added to the tank to keep it from imploding or vapor locking. When it is parked and it gets hot outside the fuel gets hotter and expands so that fuel vapor goes into the charcoal canister to be burned. This keeps fuel vapor from polluting the air.

So as long as I leave that box connected to the gas tank Nothing really changes. I can disconnect it from the airbox(replace with KN cone filter set up) and it will still perform its function?
