It quickly got to the point that I had to use starting fluid to crank it. After changing parts it still leaked down, apparently no check valve on the after market pump. Ordered a second pump and no check valve. That why he is going to put one inline. Hopefully that fixes it.

I really find it difficult to believe the aftermarket pumps left it out. I have found many bleeding off the pressure because the installer didn't tighten the hose clamps inside the tank tight enough. An inline at the tank should fix the issues if it's what you say it is.

Hopefully it will. he's replaced many over the years but it's his first Miata. If he says no check valve on the new pumps (ordered a second) I believe him.

I'd like to know did he test the pumps or make a guess. Sometimes they are well integrated inside the pump and not visible inside the outlet. Question. How long did the system hold pressure for?
